The goal of the Augusta Jewish Community Sunday School (AJCSS) is to offer the Jewish children of the Augusta area a pluralistic Jewish Sunday School education.  The Sunday morning classes meet alternately by semester at Adas Yeshurun Synagogue and Congregation Children of Israel.  Special programs are held at the Augusta Jewish Community Center. The older students also attend classes during weekday afternoons at their respective congregations. Teachers and staff are drawn from the Jewish community and rabbis from both congregations participate.  Teenagers serve as madrichim, or teacher aides. The school is directed by an administrator/principal, with guidance from an Oversight Committee consisting of representatives from the two congregations, Augusta Jewish Federation, and the Augusta Jewish Community Center.

An exciting development occurred in 2007 when we were invited by the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life to participate in their pilot education program.  We eagerly “signed on” with the ISJL and have benefited greatly from their professionally designed curriculum.  In addition, our ISJL “fellow” visits us three times a year, providing special programs for the children (as well as the community) and leading in-service education sessions for the teachers.  There is an annual two-day education conference during the summer for teachers and administrators at the ISJL home base in Jackson, Mississippi.

AJCSS normal class hours are Sundays from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. If you would like to enroll your child/children please call Elliot Price, AJCSS Principal at 706-339-3798.
